Privacy notice
We keep as little as we can, and nothing leaves this server for advertising. Last updated November 2026.
Who runs this site
openrig.eu is run by the OpenRig project, a free software project, from a server in the European Union. The documentation at docs.openrig.eu is a separate static site with its own hosting and privacy terms.
Without an account
Browsing and downloading need no account and set no cookie. Every page, picture, font and video is served from this server; no third-party content is loaded, apart from the audience measurement below. Download counts are totals; we do not keep who downloaded what. The web server keeps technical logs (address, page, browser) for security and troubleshooting, rotated within a few weeks.
With an account
- You sign in with your email address: we send it a one-time link, valid 15 minutes. The address is stored for sign-in only. It is never shown publicly, never shared, and never used for newsletters or advertising. Sign-in emails contain no tracking.
- Your public profile is the handle you choose. Nothing else about you is shown.
- We store what you publish, your votes, favourites, comments, reports and the pedalboards you link (its name and when it was last used).
- One cookie,
orc_session, keeps you signed in. While you sign in,orc_csrfprotects the sign-in form andorc_signupremembers your confirmed address while you choose a handle; both expire within hours. They are strictly necessary and need no consent. - Your favourites list is private. Votes are only shown as totals.
Deleting your data
In settings, Delete my account erases your account, its email address and pending sign-in links, rigs, votes, favourites, notifications and linked pedalboards immediately. Comments become “deleted” placeholders so replies keep their place. Backups roll over within 30 days.
Audience measurement
We count visits with a self-hosted, cookieless Umami instance. It stores no cookie and no IP address, honours Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control, and drops URL parameters other than campaign tags. Events such as “a rig was downloaded” carry the rig’s public slug, never who you are, what you searched for or what you wrote.
